Year 2G: Hands On Learning …

We have had our hands full these last few weeks! We have been learning about how to make dioramas by creating a design to show what it will look like, what we will need to use and thinking about how we will attach our materials. We think they look pretty good and are beginning to critique our own models.

We have also been learning about 2D shapes, lines and how to measure lengths. We each chose a different unit of measurement to measure and compare 5 different lines and work out the order of longest to shortest.

We have also been sharing some great stuff with our morning talks each week. Some of us share Power Points, some of us bring in items or write notes and some of us practice at home by talking to our family. We are learning all about how to show good eye contact and speak clearly in front of an audience as well as show great listening!

Steps:

  1. Cut down the tree trunk.
  2. Strip off the bark.
  3. Put on the sugarbag ( a wax made by stingless bees).
  4. Paint the didgeridoo.

Below is the clip that we watched.

R/1 KB: Asia Performance

Today, we were lucky enough to see a performance called ‘G’day Asia’. The presenter Hugh, has traveled to many Asian countries, and brought with him lots of puppets to share with us, and teach us some information about these countries. Here are some of the things we learnt:
Dragons are used to celebrate Chinese New Year.
Panda’s eat lots and lots of Bamboo. They also sleep a lot.
The country of China has the most people living in it in the whole world!
Monkeys and Orangutans live in trees in forests. Sometimes people chop down the trees and the monkeys have no where to live.

Book Week Parade

The GizmoThe Campus had their Book Week Parade last Friday. Our class were inspired to dress as though we were involved in “The Gizmo” story, our class novel. If you are unfamiliar with the Gizmo story, the Gizmo is a ball like machine that wreaks havoc on those that have it their possession. When the Gizmo beeps one or more articles of clothing get swapped between two people. You can see from the video below that we all had fun with this theme.
